In the times of the Mishkan (Tabernacle) and Beis HaMikdash (Holy Temple), the <em>kohanim<\/em> were the ones to do the <em>avodah<\/em>, ritual service. While performing the services, they had to wear special clothing. <\/p>\n<p>There is a similar concept in the secular world.
