A Simchas Torah <\/a>tradition, courtesy of Mrs. Varda Epstein.<\/p>\n

Ingredients:<\/p>\n

1 large can cranberry sauce<\/p>\n

1 16 oz. can tomato sauce<\/p>\n

1 cup water<\/p>\n

juice of half a lemon<\/p>\n

1\/4 cup sugar<\/p>\n

1\/2 cup raisins<\/p>\n

2 pounds ground meat<\/p>\n

1 egg<\/p>\n

3 saltines, crushed, soaked and squeezed dry<\/p>\n

salt and pepper to taste<\/p>\n

1 grated medium onion<\/p>\n

1\/4 cup warm water mixed with 1 Tbsp. ketchup<\/p>\n

Combine first five ingredients in a pan and bring to a boil. Add 1\/2 cup raisins and let simmer five minutes more.<\/p>\n

Separate cabbage leaves according to your favorite method (such as freezing and removing the leaves once thawed.) Combine remaining ingredients and fill cabbage leaves, placing them seam-side down in a pot. Cover with sauce and simmer, covered, on top of the stove for an hour.<\/p>\n

Bake in a 350F oven, uncovered, basting occasionally, for one hour or until brown.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
